Charles "Chick" Sherwood

Charles “Chick” Sherwood began wrestling during in junior year of high school after his wrestling coach talked him into competing. Only two years into the sport, Sherwood remained undefeated and won the
157- pound South Jersey and state championships. Following graduation, Sherwood had three outstanding seasons at West Virginia University. He won two Southern Conference titles and was deprived of a chance at a third title when he was sidelined with an injury late in his senior season. He started the wrestling program at Falls Church, Va., where he coached two years while earning his Master’s Degree. In 1962 he moved to Central Michigan University as assistant coach in wrestling and track. Two years later he became head wrestling coach and led his team to 149 wins in 18 years. His last team placed eighth in the national championships.
